GoDaddy, the world’s leading domain registrar and hosting provider has reported as part of it’s annual review of domain appraisals that in August 2020 the domain name OnlineShop.co.uk had been sold to a private equity firm for the sum of £3.7 million pounds, making it the largest sale of a domain in history in the United Kingdom. According to the report the domain was brokered by Sedo, a private domain and website marketplace based out of Cambridge, Massachusetts. It’s not the first domain of it’s kind to go for eye watering figures. There have been reported a number of domain sales in the past several decades with the top five so far being: 1. Cruises.co.uk, £560,000 – purchased January 20082. Recycle.co.uk, £150,000 – purchased October 20073. Ink.co.uk, £130,425 – purchased in 20074. Mobile.co.uk, £120,000 – purchased in 20075. Taste.co.uk, £110,000 – purchased in 1997The domain which has now seen active development is owned and operated by Online Shop Technologies Ltd., which has reportedly seen investment sums of up to £1,000,000 million pounds from notable investors Robin Vauvelle, famed Hollywood actor Ryan Gosling and even the likes of Dan Bilzerian who is currently undergoing heavy scrutiny due to Ignites own financial troubles. The recent sale has put other domain …
